34 Weeks

By December 19, 2012Blog

Baby is supposed to be the weight of a cantaloupe this week.  About 4 3/4 pounds and 20 inches long.  But we know our little cantaloupe is already 5 pounds from the ultrasound several days ago.  This week baby is able to recognize simple songs and may find these same lullabies comforting after he is born.   His skin is also smoother than ever. His central nervous system is maturing and his lungs are continuing to mature as well. Since we’ve been nervous about preterm labor, we are happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies. On our to do list this week: packing for the hospital.  Got any advice on the best thing you packed for your birthing trip?

So glad I am here with all of you for Christmas. Love feeling baby Payne kick. I am also glad my meals and treats can help fatten baby up for his big arrival.

Had a great time with all of you and miss you all very much. Take care of our little baby, can’t believe it’s only four weeks to go!

So excited for you Amanda! Craig & I played cards in triage while we waited. We brought a ton of other stuff, but didn’t end up using it. My labor went relatively quick so I think that’s why. We put on Finding Nemo at one point, but then all of a sudden the nurse said it was time to push so I don’t remember actually watching more than the first 2 minutes! Anyway, I suggest bringing anything you might want. Better to have more to do than nothing I figure. Oh yeah- we Skyped with my sister about an hour after he was born, so maybe you’ll want to bring a laptop or iPad or whatever you can use to do that kind of thing if you want.

I have a lot packed! 😉 I’m sure we won’t need half of it but just in case. The laptop is a great idea. Thanks!
